This is a popular, non-religious way to welcome your newborn into your life involving family and friends in the celebration. You may be having a religious ceremony overseas or vice versa but wish to have a less formal celebration here in Australia. A baby's name is one that they will be identified with for life. The name may hold a special meaning for the family or it may be chosen for popularity, either way it is a decision that is not made lightly so it should be celebrated.

Godparents or other supporting friends or family may be chosen to be involved in the ceremony as 'special people' in the parents' lives and therefore that of the child’s life.
